01 / YOUR MATERIAL. YOUR OBJECTIVE.

Put enzymes to work
at the right stage.

From recovered paper to fermentable sugars.
Start with the outcome you want to achieve.

RECOVERED PAPER & CARDBOARD

Give recovered fibres
their next opportunity.

Evaluate cellulase and xylanase for fibre conditioning, and laccases for suitable deinking trials. Match enzyme activity, contact time and mediator requirements to the furnish.

ENZYME FAMILYTARGET MATERIALTRIAL FOCUS

Cellulase Endo / exo activities

Cellulose fibres

Controlled fibre modification or cellulose hydrolysis, depending on the blend and dose.

Xylanase

Xylan / hemicellulose

Hemicellulose treatment in pulp processing and complementary recycling trials.

Feruloyl esterase FAE

Ferulate ester linkages

Pair with xylanase where ferulate-containing structures remain, particularly in non-wood fibres. Assess ferulic acid release and fibre accessibility.

Laccases Oxidative enzymes

Phenolics / selected ink components

Screen for deinking, colour treatment and lignin modification. Oxygen availability and, where needed, a suitable mediator are part of the trial design.

Amylase

Starch-based materials

Hydrolysis of accessible starch in coatings, sizing residues and selected waste streams.

β-Glucosidase

Cellobiose

Conversion of cellobiose to glucose as part of a cellulose-to-sugars blend.

Lipase & pectinase

Selected fats / pectin

Targeted screening where feedstock analysis identifies suitable substrates.

BEYOND RECYCLING / WASTE-PAPER VALORISATION

Waste paper.
New possibilities.

Keep useful fibres in circulation.
Explore new value from suitable residual streams.

Illustrative downstream products: recycled paper, corrugated board and moulded fibre packaging01 / RECOVER THE FIBRE

Paper & packaging

Evaluate deinking and fibre conditioning for reuse in paper, board and moulded-fibre products.

Recovered paper → treated pulp → new products
Illustrative fermentation bioreactor representing conversion of paper-derived sugars into ethanol or organic acids02 / UNLOCK THE SUGARS

Bioethanol & organic acids

Hydrolyse accessible cellulose into sugars, then evaluate fermentation routes to ethanol or lactic acid.

Cellulose → sugars → fermentation

Cellulose-based materials

Explore enzyme-assisted fibre treatment with mechanical processing for fibrillated cellulose and film development.

Selected fibres → fibrillation → material trials

Illustrative downstream uses. Feedstock analysis, separation, process development and product qualification determine what is achievable.

your process.

Share your feedstock, pH, temperature, solids content and target outcome.

02 / EVALUATE

Test on the
real material.

Request free samples for your registered business and compare selected treatments with a control.

03 / SCALE

supply route.

Refine activity and formulation, then discuss 25 L packs and larger bulk quantities.

A SIMPLE TRIAL PLANNING TOOL

Calculate your
enzyme quantity.

Already have a trial dose? Convert it into the liquid enzyme volume needed for your dry feedstock.

LIQUID ENZYME REQUIRED1 L
Calculation only: mass × dose. The example is not a recommended dosage; enzyme activity and process conditions determine the appropriate dose.

BEFORE YOU START

A few useful answers.

Which enzyme should I use for paper recycling?

Cellulase and xylanase are useful candidates to screen for selected deinking and fibre-conditioning processes. Selection depends on furnish, treatment conditions and the properties you need to preserve. We recommend comparative trials rather than a universal blend.

Can cellulase affect paper strength?

Yes. Excessive cellulose hydrolysis can damage fibres. Match enzyme activity, dose and contact time to your objective, and monitor strength alongside drainage or deinking performance.

Can I request samples and bespoke blends?

Yes. We offer free enzyme samples to registered businesses for application trials. Share your company details, feedstock and operating conditions so we can select suitable activities and agree the sample quantity. Bespoke blends are also available.

Where can I read the supporting research?

These studies support trial design; they do not establish performance for a particular commercial preparation or waste stream.

What bulk sizes are available?

We support supply from 25 L upwards. Tell us your enzyme specification, expected demand and delivery country so we can quote suitable packaging, availability and lead time.
